Queen Creek AZ Community Information
Queen Creek, in Maricopa County's southeast corner, is only a 45-minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, but a world apart from city life. Families on irrigated acre lots and in friendly subdivisions live among farmers and ranches, enjoying a rural lifestyle. Centuries ago, the Hohokam found the fertile areas along creeks and washes at the foot of the San Tan Mountains ideal for farming, as did turn-of-the-century settlers. The town is comprised of 26 square miles. The Town General Plan contains 31,282 acres, with 19.7 percent set aside for commercial or
industrial uses.
Scenic Attractions:
Queen Creek attracts thousands of visitors each year for its u-pick fruit and vegetable crops and seasonal festivals. Scenic views include the San Tan Mountains to the south and Superstition Mountains to the northeast. San Tan Mountain Regional Park offers open space and recreational opportunities. As development occurs and funding allows, Queen Creek is acquiring and developing two major washes crossing the community as the foundation of a parks and trail system. Historical sites include the Old Main school building and the ruins of a Butterfield Stage stop.
Community Facilities & Economy:
Queen Creek facilities include a branch library, Rural Metro fire station and meeting rooms. The Youth Center offers recreational programs, a computer lab, after-school activities and homework assistance. Founders' Park provides sports fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and a skate park. Desert Mountain Park offers baseball and soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts, an equestrian staging area, an arboretum walk, playground areas and a group picnic ramada. Queen Creek High School, Middle School and four elementary schools provide additional sport facilities. The Queen Creek Performing Arts Center seats 800 and schedules plays and concerts. Plans have been developed to convert the Queen Creek Landfill to a major equestrian park.
